Family Housing Association win Gower Society Design Award
Family Housing Association has been presented with an award at ‘The Gower Society Annual Design Awards’ for its Scurlage residential development.
The Gower Society launched the Design Awards in 2003 to recognise and publicise buildings with good design and vernacular features that are particularly ‘pleasing on the eye’ and sympathetic to the landscape of the area of outstanding natural beauty in which they are built.
The development is the first social housing development to be built in Gower in twenty years and features 14 two and three-bedroom homes. They have all been built to the highest specification with fantastic views of the surrounding countryside and within close distance of Oxwich, Port Eynon and Rhossili beaches.
Karen Dusgate, Chief Executive of FHA Wales, commented: “We are immensely proud of our development in Scurlage and are delighted to receive this special award from the Gower Society.
“During the planning stages of the development, we were committed to ensuring that the new homes in Scurlage added to the natural beauty of Gower, as part of our ongoing commitment to benefitting local communities the homes were only available to people already living or working in the area.”
On completion of the Scurlage development, Robin Kirby, chairman of The Gower Society, commented: “The Gower Society applauds this modest but significant housing development in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at Scurlage. The 14 homes have been designed attractively and in accordance with the Local Authority’s Design Guide for Gower in a spacious setting with wide roads, off road parking and tree planting.
“The Peninsular needs more of this type and size of residential housing to accommodate the needs of people working locally and Family Housing must be commended for taking the initiative in Gower.”
