New dedicated falls response service for Caredig residents

Caredig is working in partnership with Delta Wellbeing to introduce a dedicated falls response service for residents living at Cartref Cynnes in Carmarthen and Tŷ Dyffryn in Ammanford, helping to ensure fast, professional support is available around the clock.

The specialist service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing reassurance to residents and their families that help is always at hand when it is needed most.

Residents can access the service in the same way they always have, by using their pendant alarm, pull cord or call point, which connects directly to Delta Wellbeing’s 24/7 monitoring centre.

The service is specifically designed to respond to non-injurious falls. When an alert is raised, a trained Delta Wellbeing response officer can attend and safely assist a resident from the floor, often removing the need for an ambulance call-out and helping people remain comfortable in their own home.

Delta Wellbeing’s response team is registered with Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) and works closely with the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust. Team members are trained in enhanced first aid, manual handling, post-fall assessment using the iStumble protocol and clinical observations.

Using specialist equipment, including Raizer chairs and Mangar Camel lifting cushions, response officers are able to support residents safely while preserving their dignity and independence.
Steve Thornton, Scheme Manager at Caredig, said:

“At Caredig, supporting people to live independently and with confidence is at the heart of what we do. We are delighted to partner with Delta Wellbeing to offer this dedicated falls response service for residents at Cartref Cynnes and Tŷ Dyffryn.

“A fall can be a distressing experience and can have a significant impact on an individual’s confidence and wellbeing. Having access to a rapid response service gives residents reassurance that help is available when they need it, allowing them to remain safe and supported in their own homes.

“The service complements the support already available within our schemes and strengthens our commitment to helping residents maintain their independence while receiving the right support at the right time.”

Carla Dix, Head of Business Development and Partnerships at Delta Wellbeing, said:

“We are pleased to be working alongside Caredig to deliver this important service for residents.

“One of the key risks following a fall is a ‘long lie’, where a person is unable to get up and remains on the floor for an extended period of time. This can have a serious impact on both physical and emotional wellbeing.

“By providing a responsive, professional service, we can help people quickly, reduce the risks associated with falls and provide reassurance to residents and their loved ones.

“This partnership reflects a shared commitment to supporting people to live safely and independently, while also helping to reduce avoidable pressure on emergency services.”
