Embracing Kindness Across Generations with Kindness in your Community Award
As part of our annual Neighbour of the Year Awards, this year we have created an extra special award for "Kindness in your Community"
During the build of our Frederick Place development, Caredig and Castell Group created community connections by bring together Peniel Green Care Home and Ysgol Lon Las through an art project. (The art work is now displayed on site of Frederick Place)
Students made a remarkable impact through their interactions with the residents, displaying incredible kindness and thoughtfulness. The bond that has formed between the students and the elderly residents, is a shining example of the power of intergenerational connections. It has also taught the pupils the value of empathy, compassion, and the importance of reaching out to others in need.
One standout student, Robin, truly shone and captured the hearts of many with her exceptional empathy, kindness and bond that she formed particularly with 96-year-old Joan. Their special bond has not only brightened Joan's days but has also had a profound impact on her wellbeing.
Our Community Engagement Officer Emma and Housing Officer Lucy surprised a deserving Robin, with our Kindness in your Community award during a school assembly and were delighted that Joan could attend too. Witnessing their heartwarming reunion was truly touching for the team.
The day was even more special as it was Joan’s birthday and the whole school sang happy birthday. This small gesture again, highlighted the beauty of bringing different generations together and the positive impact it can have on both the young and the elderly.
The connection between Robin, Joan, and the students from Ysgol Lon Las is a shining example of the beauty that can emerge when we come together to support and care for one another. Let us all be inspired to spread kindness, build bridges across generations, and make our communities a little brighter each day.
